Lifei Wang, a doctoral student in the IIST program at the Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences, received the Certificate of Excellence Presentation Encouragement Award at the 12th International Symposium on Affective Science and Engineering (ISASE2026), held at Utsunomiya University, Yoto Campus in March 2026.

At The 12th International Symposium on Affective Science and Engineering(ISASE2026), held from March 16 to 18, 2026, the joint research paper entitled “Subject-independent Bio-signal Fear Estimation in VR Horror Scenarios: Cross-game Evaluation and Individual Difference Analysis” by Lifei Wang and her co-authors received the ISASE Presentation Encouragement Award. This study developed a transformer-based fear estimation model using heart rate variability and respiration signals and examined its generalization to unseen participants and different VR horror games. Subject-independent experiments on three VR horror games achieved macro F1-scores above 0.60 for all cross-game combinations. The results also revealed substantial variation among participants, indicating that individual physiological differences affect fear estimation accuracy.
