Some major scholarships are introduced below.
International students can reserve this scholarship before their arrival to Japan. This scholarship is to support the prospective students with brilliant talent but have difficulties in concentrating on studies due to economic reasons.
Number of recipients: a few
The amount of scholarship: 48,000 yen per month for 6 months
This scholarship is to support the master students with excellent academic performance and personality, but have difficulties in concentrating on studies due to economic reasons.
Number of recipients: around 150 per year
The amount of scholarship: 200,000 yen
IIST Daddy Longlegs Scholarship was founded based on the donation from a professor who belongs to Hosei University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering. The purpose of this scholarship is to support IIST Master’s course students from specific countries (Nepal, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan, East Timor, Laos, and Vietnam) with good academic results who are willing to study further but have difficulties in concentrating on studies due to economic reasons. The amount of scholarship: 200,000 yen (annually)
This scholarship aims to support students from Vietnam who intend to engage in business, practice or academic research in fields related to urban development and architecture.

The amount of scholarship: the amount equivalent to the tuition fees and others
There are two ways to receive the MEXT Scholarship: Embassy recommendation and International Partner University recommendation. In the Embassy recommendation process, applicants who wish to study at Hosei University are supposed to apply through Japanese Embassies and Consulate Generals overseas. In the International Partner University recommendation process, applicants who belong to partner universities are eligible to apply to study at Hosei University. The acceptance should be only treated between universities.
Regardless of the process, the candidate should apply it before the entrance examination of Hosei University. For more details, refer to the website.

This program, called ABE Initiative program for short, is operated by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The program aims at inviting young African people to Japan and giving all the participants the opportunity for professional education at graduate schools throughout Japan so that the participants can form the backbone of the development of Africa in the future. At the same time, this program offers the participants the opportunity to receive internship training at Japanese enterprises for the purpose that their learning covers not only state-of-the-art technologies and advanced skills but also the corporate culture and work ethics of Japan. The candidate should apply it before the entrance examination of Hosei University. Contact your local JICA agency for more details.

This is the grant for doctoral students at Hosei University to foster researchers with advanced research ability and rich knowledge.
Number of recipients: All eligible students
The amount of grant: 480,000 yen
This grant aims at encouraging students enrolled in graduate schools of Hosei University to study abroad and conduct academic research in order to foster young researchers and develop internationally competitive advanced professionals.

The amount of grant: up to 1000,000 yen or 2000,000 yen, depending on the duration of study abroad
In order to encourage the advancement and internationalization of academic research, Hosei University offers the grant to subsidize part of the expenses for academic conferences held domestically and internationally.
Number of recipients: First come, first served
The amount of grant: up to 30,000 yen or 100,000 yen, depending on the conference
In order to encourage the high level academic research at graduate schools and to publish outstanding research results, Hosei University offers the grant to subsidize part of the expenses for the publication of the doctoral dissertation of those who conferred the Doctoral degree by Hosei University.
Number of recipients: about 6 people per year
The amount of grant: up to 1,000,000 yen
In order to enhance the upgrading and internationalization of the academic research, Hosei University offers the grant to subsidize part of the expenses for the professional review of the paper/thesis written in foreign languages.
Number of recipients: about 15 people per year *one time per person per year
The amount of grant: up to 100,000 yen

Hosei University has a tuition reduction system for self-supporting international students as one of the financial assistance measures to provide an environment where students can devote themselves to their studies. Reduction rate for graduate students is 20%.
Students who wish to apply for tuition reduction need to submit an application within a specified deadline, following the instructions from Global Education Center at the beginning of the new academic year.
