Associate Professor Keping Yu (Major in Applied Informatics, Graduate School of Science and Engineering), Vice Director of the Institute of Integrated Science and Technology (IIST), has been selected for the 5th Japan Research Front Awards.

On May 22, 2024, Clarivate (known for Web of Science, the world’s largest academic paper database) announced the recipients of the “5th Japan Research Front Award,” recognizing researchers for their outstanding contributions and achievements in advanced research areas. This award, now being presented for the fifth time following 2004, 2007, 2012, and 2016 (with 2020 interrupted due to COVID-19), highlights 11 research fronts with significant contributions from Japan, selected from 12,726 leading research areas worldwide. Additionally, 11 researchers affiliated with Japanese research institutions, who have made remarkable achievements within these fronts and obtained their degrees after 2001, have been awarded.

The Yu Lab has been working on network intelligence and security for many years. His research topics mainly include intelligent network resource scheduling and optimization, intelligent analysis of in-network big data, network intrusion detection and prevention, intelligent rumor/spammer detection, applications of network intelligence and security methodologies in the Internet of things, digital twin, and cyber-physical systems, ITU-T standardization for the intelligence and security of future networks.

Assoc. Prof. Yu received this award for his contributions to “5G-enabled IoT Technology with Improved Security, Privacy, and Functionality” and “Intelligent Transport Systems and Urban Development Using Cutting-edge Network and AI Technologies”
